Lazeret Beach, Meljine brings together the design of a beach bar, shaded seating and waterfront facilities within the natural cove beside the historic Lazaret complex in Meljine. The concept and main design organise the sandy beach, its timber walkways and furnishings as a coherent setting for swimming, relaxing and meeting by the sea.
A light timber structure shelters the bar and lounge, with movable fabric shading providing protection from the sun. Separate timber pavilions accommodate sanitary and service facilities, with roof-mounted solar collectors designed to provide hot water for the bar and beach showers. The wider intervention repairs the retaining wall with local stone cladding and improves access from the street, connecting the existing shoreline with the new beach facilities.
